Amusing

Happy Tuesday Gang.

How's it going?

I have a few amusing things to share with you today.

Random bits that made me laugh.

Yesterday we walked by a bird store and saw this lovely yard ornament.

The Big Boy says (and I quote )
"Wook mama, I fink dat's a scar-wet macaw."
Scarlet Macaw. Seriously?

Many of you will be surprised to know this, but sometimes I get mad.

These children, they are not dummies.

Irritated female + flowers = spontaneous mood change.

"Hee-yah you go, mama. For you."

Here's an interesting bit of marketing.

Sanitary!
Sanitary?

And finally, here is a photo of the Wee One making off with his brother's bowling pins.

Finally, photographic evidence that the Wee One really is, well, kind of a jerk.

The Big Boy got the pins all set up, then went off to find a ball.

There.

I hope you are amused.

If not, go here. Hyperbole and a half.

Ack!

It dawned on me this weekend that there are only three more weekends in August.

Ack!

It is my humble opinion that the summer should not be moving quite so quickly.

I want more veggies-on-the-grill.

Oh, thank you, CSA.

Forgive me for belaboring the point, but I really like veggies-on-the-grill

In the time I took me to fetch my camera, an entire pile of grilled corn became two lonely ears.

I want iced coffee and sunscreen.

I want months of fresh berries and lazy, hot afternoons reading books in the grass.

I want an eternity of Sunday afternoon trips to the homemade ice cream stand.

I want my children to eat their meals shirtless until they figure out how to eat neatly.

Shirtless children are so much easier to clean up!

Sigh.

Let's brainstorm - what's on your must-do list before the end of the summer?

If I have to let it go, I'm gonna make sure we go out with a bang.

Friday Moments

Friday Moments with Soule Mama again today.

If you have a moment or two to share, please leave a comment with a link!

Yesterday the kids were sick.

So there were a few "cleaning-the-puke-off-the-bedspread" moments

Always hose off before putting in the washer. Trust me.

I took pajama-wearing children to the farm to pick up our CSA haul. Both were disgruntled to be left in the car.

Several pounds of cucumbers + sickly children = a perfect day for pickle-making!

Worth the effort.

Making my grandmother's pickles always makes me feel close to her, and I need a little nana-lovin' yesterday.

Yum.

Luckily the bug was short-lived and everyone had perked up by the end of the day.

Tired, but smiling

And there you have it, a day in moments.

Any good plans for the weekend?

Important information

Today's post will be full of important tidbits.

Seriously.

1) Today is my bloggy-friend Rachel's birthday - Happy Birthday Rachel!

You all will remember Rachel as the provider of the extremely awesome embarrassing-book-camouflage.

2) The bad news: Rotten potatoes smell like a dead body

The good news: There is not a dead body in my pantry.

3) The baby birds in my fort are starting to grow feathers!

Here's the scoop with the birds: Yes, I have been taking photos of them but I am too scared to post them here on BMM because the babies are totally creepy, yucky, and gross.

As soon as the birdies are cute - I will post photos.

4) Yesterday I was having kind of a crummy day.

I have a cold. The kids are grouchy. So, I tried to turn the day around by taking the boys to the library.

Unfortunately there was a magic show occurring at the library.

4a) The Big Boy is afraid of people in tuxedos.
4b) The Wee One thinks "Shh everyone, the shows going to start." is a cue to discuss loudly the fact that his brother has swiped the toy car he was using.

I grabbed a handful of books - completely at random. And made a rapid exit.

Library fail. But look at these great pictures.

It sure looks like we had a great day, no?

Motivated

Good morning, gang.

The weather the past few days has been a bit unusual for New England in early August - the days are hot but the nights? Well the nights have been a bit, chilly.

This cool-at-night, hot-during-the-day business reminds me of a season which is not summer, but which I won't mention - for fear of bringing to mind the season which follows the cool-at-night-hot-during-the-day season.

You with me?

Anyway.

The season I am reminded of, but not mentioning, always gets me crazily motivated to clean and organize.

I think it's a throw-back to my school days.

I used to drag my mother all over creation looking for just the perfect planner. My entire academic career hinged on having the perfect planner, writing utensils, and notebooks.

Sadly, I'm not going to school this year so my crazed need for planning and organization has been focused around the house.

I'm hanging pictures, purging drawers, and attacking the playroom.

This past weekend - a beloved friend and cousin (maker of the treasured yoga-mat-bag) helped me apply contact paper to empty diaper boxes and label them with pictures to help the kids assist with clean-up-time.

Can you tell which boxes were decorated by me and which were decorated by talented, artsy cousin?

Exhibit A?

No, that's not Hannibal Lecter. It's supposed to be a surgeon.

Or Exhibit B?

Yes, yes I know. I should have had her label all the boxes.

Happy Wednesday!

From his perspective

Recently Hubs got a fancy new iPhone.

Among its' many talents, the iPhone has a camera.

And although I must admit at first I was a little nervous I would have to pry the thing out of his grasp occasionally, instead I have received an unexpected gift.

Daddy moments.

There's just something about cell phone photos - they capture moments that are too fleeting or unexpected to be caught with even our wee digital camera.

I love this.

Now, without further ado...

Lounging

Chillin' like a villain.

Some clothes are overrated

But slip-on shoes are not.

The Big Boy is getting daring

Especially when there's a Daddy to impress

And finally, did you know that rubber boots are freakin' hilarious?

Well they are. Now you know.

There you have it.

Just regular moments during regular days.

Priceless.

A daddy's eye view.

Birthday Over

All good things must come to an end.

Dislike.

My birthday was totally awesome, though!

We had a wonderful dinner out (child-free!) with beloved friends and family.

There were lots of treats this weekend: cookies and cupcakes,  fancy beverages, and the ultimate french toast.

Hubs picked me up a loaf of the french-toast-making bread. Pan de mie.

When I went to slice it up though, I noticed a wee bite taken from the top.

Hubs informed me the Wee One took a wee sample.

And I just have  to show off my brand-new, hand-made, uber-fab Yoga-Mat-Bag!!!

This photo does not do this bag's fabulocity justice.
Did I mention - hand-made  by beloved cousin?

Sadly, now my weekend is over, and I have to go run 1,000 miles on the treadmill to make up for all the birthday treats.

How was your weekend?
