A good dog

At this moment our family contains a cat, but we are blessed to have a wonderful neighbor-dog who brings us some serious delight when she visits.

A good dog is a blessing to all he or she comes to meet, no?

My kids certainly think so.

Okay Bud, let go of her face.

This lovely girl is as gentle and understanding as any Grandma.

Gentle touches Bud. Gentle!

Even the Wee One loves her, though he is too shy to admit it.

No one would ever guess you are delighted shy guy, great poker face.

She even tolerates toddler-hugs. And I know from experience that these aren't always particularly pleasant.

True love.

We are so grateful to have such wonderful neighbors and friends, both the two-legged and the four-legged variety.

Do you have a furry friend who brings delight to your life? Do tell.

  1. Love those faces of joy as they enjoy the dog! Maybe there is one in your future??

We do have a dog that joined us pre-kids.

Thankfully she has been pretty patient as every ounce of our attention shifted from her to our littles!

  2. My mum had the most special border collie - it just knew it was really a person :-)
My monkey would cup its face in her hands to get it's full attention and then prattle on to it about all her goings on. True friends. It was the most special connection :-)

  3. My little guy was TERRIFIED of dogs when he was smaller, and unfortunately we rarely met a dog that was calm and approachable. I wish more people would train their dogs well...( and also pick up all their poo).
What IS your son doing to that poor dog's face?.. :)

  4. So adorable! I'm looking forward to getting a dog, but only after the husband retires from the military (it wouldn't be fair to the poor animal to have to deal with all of the moves and other stress); my family has the most lovable Great Dane who is absolutely terrified of Sammy--it's kind of funny, actually. :D

  5. Very cute! We have a 6 year old chocolate lab who is extremely tolerant of the 2 year old. The loyalty that dog has is amazing.

  6. This made me cry a little. We had an amazing dog, but after the move to CA, had to give him up. The poor thing got so sick every time we moved and it exacerbated his separation anxiety. I just couldn't keep doing that to such a wonderful dog.

He was young, but like your neighbor's, was great with kids. He was playful, yet gentle, and was always by my side. I raised him since he was 5 weeks old, so it was very painful to let him go, but it was the right thing to do (I think??). Below is a link of a video of my dog playing with my oldest, who was about 11 months at the time.

  7. The wee one's face could make anyone smile! I love that photo!

We don't have a dog either, but Annabelle loves the pups in our neighborhood. She trembles with excitement when she sees them on our walks, but suddenly takes on a calm and cavalier attitude when they're within reach. She prefers to admire them from afar, I guess!

  9. Aww, a boy and a dog... doesn't get any sweeter than that. Our golden Katie is so gentle with kids. Not sure where she learned it, but she lays down so that little ones are too nervous to come over and give her a few pets. I'm sure she will be happy someday when she has her own kiddos to call hers. Great pictures!
